Prayer Ministry

The shepherds at Sylvan Hills believe in the power of prayer and that it is a vital and effective link to our Most Awesome God. In such, the elders have established, as their first priority, the following vision statement for our church: “It is our vision to be a church that is prayer driven and totally dependant upon God; utilizing prayer as a priority in our daily lives and in the body together.”

The Prayer Ministry uses the following goals, strategies, and tactics to support the vision of our elders: Our overall goal is to lead the efforts of this body of believer’s to become more prayer driven. We will support this goal by encouraging the congregation to grow in our faith and dependence on God by daily recognizing his presence in our lives through the power of prayer. The following activities are utilized to enhance our prayer driven lives: We plan and publish weekly prayer topics, coordinate 5th Sunday night Prayer Services and plan periods of concentrated Prayer and Fasting for specific events, and we direct the Prayer Warrior Team. We meet monthly to plan and coordinate the many facets of this ministry. We invite and encourage everyone to participate in this vital ministry. May our focus be on the one and only true God and it is to His glory and power that this ministry exists.

Prayer Warrior Team

Sylvan Hills has established a team of devoted individuals dedicated to pray on behalf of our congregation and local community. The Prayer Warrior Team is open to any member of the church and all are encouraged to participate. The focus of the Prayer Warrior is to petition God on behalf of individuals, groups, or special events that are in need of God’s loving care. We do this through daily prayer for a specified length of time, usually one week or as requested. Our Prayer Warriors know how important it is to the one requesting prayers that their requests were heard and prayers were offered on their behalf. It is with daily commitment that we go before God on the behalf of others.

Special Events

For special occasions, a 24 hour period of unceasing prayer or 40 days of prayer and fasting may be planned. When outreach or spiritual renewal activities are planned for the church, it is the hope of each person on the prayer committee that the congregation’s prayers may open each of our hearts and souls so the Lord may bless our efforts.

Prayer and Praise Requests

Prayer requests are received on a daily basis through our website form and weekly through prayer cards located in the church building. A list is compiled each week and distributed following the directions specified by the requestor. These include: our Elders and preaching staff (for subjects to sensitive to publish for public knowledge), Prayer Warrior Team members, or to the office staff for inclusion in the weekly News and Notes. Regardless of who is requested to offer prayers in your behalf, be assured that your requests are being lifted up to God daily. We receive requests that include, but are not limited to, health problems, death of a loved one, personal struggles, mission work, deployment of loved ones serving in the military, financial problems, and marriage or family problems. Additionally, we have a Praise Request area to share with others when our prayers are answered. It is important to share with one another and to praise God when He answers our prayers.
